The Sindh Police has requested the Sindh Government for an Rs2.79 Billion allocation in order to purchase military-grade weapons and ammunition from Pakistan Ordnance Factories, Wah. These include sophisticated sniper rifles with night vision capability, thermal binoculars, advanced surveillance drones, night-vision cameras, grenade launchers, night and thermal vision capability drone cameras, 82mm and 60mm mortar guns, G3 rifles, and automatic grenade launchers.
A top-level committee of Sindh Police officers has been formed on the orders of the Inspector General of Sindh Police to approve the purchase of these weapons and to seek permission for restricted and prohibited military-grade weapons. This decision has been made in response to the martyrdom of five policemen, including a DSP and SHO, by dacoits in the riverine (Kacha) area of Ghotki, Kashmore, and Shikarpur districts in November last year.
