Sindh Police Seeking Rs.2.79 Billion to Upgrade Weapons

The Sindh Police has requested the Sindh Government for an Rs2.79 Billion allocation in order to purchase military-grade weapons and ammunition from Pakistan Ordnance Factories, Wah. These include sophisticated sniper rifles with night vision capability, thermal binoculars, advanced surveillance drones, night-vision cameras, grenade launchers, night and thermal vision capability drone cameras, 82mm and 60mm mortar guns, G3 rifles, and automatic grenade launchers. A top-level committee of Sindh Police officers has been formed on the orders of the Inspector General of Sindh Police to approve the purchase of these weapons and to seek permission for restricted and prohibited military-grade weapons. This decision has been made in response to the martyrdom of five policemen, including a DSP and SHO, by dacoits in the riverine (Kacha) area of Ghotki, Kashmore, and Shikarpur districts in November last year.

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), the women’s wing of the Communist Party of India, stirred controversy in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s capital city, by placing posters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in preparation for the AIDWA’s 13th National Conference from Jan. 6 to 9. The posters highlighted Ms. Bhutto’s accomplishments and educational history. Sandeep Washpati, a BJP leader, was quick to criticize the move, claiming Ms. Bhutto was an enemy of India who had repeatedly disrespected it, and that those who honor India’s foes are enemies of India as well.

Pakistan Received 60 Million Dollar Support for Afghan Refugees from US in 2022

Donald Blome, US Ambassador to Islamabad, revealed on Thursday that the US has given $273 million in aid for Afghan refugees and the communities that host them in Pakistan. The fiscal year 2022 saw an additional $60 million added to this figure. The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for its hospitality towards the refugees throughout the last four decades, and said that the US is proud to continue its support. This assistance has gone towards increasing school enrollment for Afghan and Pakistani children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, improving healthcare services and nutrition programs, providing livelihood opportunities for refugees and their hosts, and improving water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure. It has also been used to help those affected by Covid-19-related health and economic issues. UNHCR representative Noriko Yoshida pointed out that the US support allowed them to respond quickly to the floods of 2022, and provide Pakistani and Afghan refugees with life-saving items. Abdullah Fadil, Unicef representative in Pakistan, thanked the US for their contribution, which enabled Unicef to make an impact on the lives of the refugees.
Chinese Car Company CHERRY Launching New Brand OMODA C in Pakistan This Year

This year, Chery, a Chinese car company, will be introducing its new brand, OMODA C series, as well as a new model, to the Pakistani market. In addition, two major updates and one variant will be released in 2023. Chery has been the leader in exporting Chinese passenger cars for 19 years and has 10 overseas plants, as well as 1,500 sales and service outlets in over 80 countries and regions. From January to November of 2022, its cumulative vehicle sales totaled 1,127,300 units. It is projected that its overseas sales will reach 2 million by 2030. Two of its models, the Tiggo8 pro and Tiggo4 pro-SOP, were established and launched in Pakistan in 2021, earning the trust of more than 3,000 customers in around six months. In accordance with its “SA” strategy, Chery is aiming to use Pakistan as its initial strategic base and gradually cover the entire South Asian market through long-term operations. For the Phase-1 plan, which is centered on the Pakistan market, Chery is planning to roll out its latest product lineup including ICE, NEV, PHEV, etc. and reach 20,000 units sales and exhaust production by 2024. Afterwards, it will expand its capacity to 50,000 units and establish Pakistan as an export base, covering Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the years 2024 to 2026. By 2027, the company hopes to have a “TRANSSION” R&D center in South Asia and reach its sales target of 100,000 units. When the Pakistani media asked about Chery’s expectations for the Pakistani vehicle market, the impact of import letter of credit restrictions on the local supply chain, and the frequency of model updates, Qi Jie, director of Chery Automobile in South Asian market, responded by emphasizing Chery’s commitment to the E0X platform and the advantages of new energy, intelligent connected technology, and automatic driving. He mentioned that new energy vehicles will be available in the Pakistani market in 2024.
20 Pakistani Universities Ranked in The Top 500 Universities of the World

Recently done assessment by UI GreenMetric ranked 20 Pakistani Universities among top 500 Universities in the World. UI GreenMetric assess universities and their campuses on various factors like infrastructure, transportation system, education and research systems, water and waste management, contribution to climate change and energy solutions. When they assessed Universities from all over the world on these factor as per set criteria, there were at least 20 Pakistani Universities among top 500 Universities including Pir Meher Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University which was top of the list in Pakistani Universites.

96 Visas Issued to Indians to Visit Katas Raj Temples

Pakistan High Commission issued visas to 96 Hindus from India who wanted to visit Katas Raj Temples in Chakwal District. Katas Raj Temples are one of the sacred places for Hindus and it is considered one of the biggest temple complexes. Hindus believe that the pond in Katas Raj was formed when their god Shive cried and his tear gathered and became a pond. It would be the first time in decades that Indian Hindus are allowed to visit Katas Raj. Most of the temples are not operational now. But there’s just one where still pooja is performed daily.
