The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), the women’s wing of the Communist Party of India, stirred controversy in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s capital city, by placing posters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in preparation for the AIDWA’s 13th National Conference from Jan. 6 to 9.
The posters highlighted Ms. Bhutto’s accomplishments and educational history. Sandeep Washpati, a BJP leader, was quick to criticize the move, claiming Ms. Bhutto was an enemy of India who had repeatedly disrespected it, and that those who honor India’s foes are enemies of India as well.
