Asad Umar, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), received relief on Tuesday when a special court in Islamabad granted him bail in the missing cypher case concerning the suspected exploitation of a classified document for political purposes.
On Monday, a court was established to hear cases brought under the Official Secrets Act.
The former federal minister requested pre-arrest release from the special court, claiming that the cypher case against him was fabricated in order to harass and blackmail him.
The first information report (FIR)’s portions, according to the petition, are inaccurate and the case against Umar is without merit. It asked the court to allow the PTI leader’s bid for bail because he was ready to fully assist with the investigations.
the judge Accepting the application, the judge granted Umar bail till August 29 and instructed him to provide a Rs. 100,000 surety bonds as collateral for the bail.
After the hearing, the former federal minister denied rumors that the FIA had just arrested him in an interview with Geo News.
He said that he had twice joined the investigation into the cypher.
According to Umar, the PTI leaders accused in this case would be vindicated.
Along with Umar, PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chairman Imran Khan have also been charged in the same case and are currently in detention. The diplomatic cypher is allegedly being exploited by the two presidents for political purposes.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) filed the FIR on The PTI chairman and the former foreign minister were accused of divulging the contents of the classified document to unauthorized parties and distorting the truth “for ulterior motives and personal gains in a manner prejudicial to the interests of state security” on August 15 by invoking Section 5 of the Official Secrets Act of 1923.
