The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore today extended the bail of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, in a lawsuit related to the May 9 violence involving the vandalism of Jinnah House and Askari Tower.
At least 8 people were killed and up to 290 injured on May 9 after the PTI chief was arrested by the National Accounts Office in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Protesters also stormed the corps commander’s residence in Lahore (also known as the Jinnah House) demolished the gates of the command center in Rawalpindi.
More than 1900 angry protesters across the country have since been rounded up in clashes with police. A lawsuit was also launched against Imran and his party officials. On May 19, Judge Ijaz Ahmad granted bail to the former prime minister until June 2 in three cases, subject to the payment of bail of Rs 100,000 each. At the beginning of today’s hearing, the judge instructed Imran to come to the podium. “I have been given an explanation as to why I was not participating in the investigation, but now I must participate,Imran said to judge.He also told that his life is threatened”.
In response, PTI chief attorney Salman Safdar said Imran was ready to participate in the investigation, but he requested that all cases be heard on the same day. “I intend to complete all three cases,” he said in court.
President Safdar also called for all cases to be resolved ahead of the June 20 hearing and promised that Imran would attend the investigation on the day the court issued the order. Judge Butter then allowed Imran to leave the country and extended his bail.
LHC extends Imran bail in Jill Shah murder case
Following the ATC, the PTI Commissioner also appeared at the Lahore High Court (LHC) for a hearing on bail claims in a case involving the concealment of facts and evidence relating to the death of a PTI employee who was involved in a traffic accident. .
Imran arrived at the court under heavy security. A video posted on the official PTI Twitter account showed his vehicle surrounded by a large security force outside the LHC.
