The Lahore high court (LHC) on weekday ordered a seven-day extension in winter vacations across colleges,schools and universities in Lahore because of unrelenting smog.
The Punjab college Department of Education had announced winter vacations for govt and private colleges across the province from 14th Dec to 31st dec.
Last week, the LHC directed authorities to propose to the varsity Department of Education to implement a two-week-long winter vacation as a step to assist curb smogginess in Lahore.
The court antecedently ordered the closure of faculties on Fridays and Saturdays.
Hearing the general public interest petitions on totally different environmental problems nowadays, Justice Shahid Kareem of the LHC determined that vacations in colleges and schools need to be extended because of the persistent smog.
A representative of PEMRA (who was also present there) told the court that letters had been written to satellite channels to run advertisements for the awareness and precautions of smog.
The court remarked that smog is up to speed to a substantial extent. However, it is the responsibility of the govt to take actions to prevent people from smog’s effects.
