Nadia Karf made history this week by becoming the first female judge in New Jersey to take the oath while wearing a hijab, and she has a copy of the Holy Quran she inherited from her grandmother to take her vows.
“I’m overwhelmed, I’m so happy, I’m so honored,” Judge Calf, 50, said in an interview with the North Jersey News Agency”.
Ms.Kahf specializes in family law and has also worked in immigration cases.Since 2003, she has served on the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations,(a Muslim civil rights organization). After waiting a year,Kahf is now a Supreme Court Justice in Passaic County, New Jersey. She was nominated by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. “I am proud to represent the Muslim and Arab community in New Jersey, USA,” she said at the inauguration on Tuesday. Kahf said she was nominated to the Supreme Court in February 2022, but her nomination was delayed more than a year by state senator Kristin Corrado, who gave her confirmation in October. .
