The court finds its more than convincing that the complainant (ECP) had provided confidence-inspiring, well-knitted and corroborated evidence, and so the charge against the accused has successfully been proven that the accused has committed offence of corrupt practices by making and publishing false statements/declaration in respect of assets acquired by way of gifts from Toshakhana and disposed of during years 2018-2019 and 2019-2020,” Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Humayun Dilawar said in a short order.
The judge said that Imran also provided an “incorrect declaration” in the Form-B (the statement of assets and liabilities, submitted to the ECP for the year 2020-2021.
“He has been found guilty of corrupt practices by hiding the benefits he accured from the national exchequer wilfully and intentionally. He deceives while giving information about a gift he received from Toshahana, which is later found to be false and inaccurate. His wrongdoing was proven beyond reasonable doubt,” the court order said.
ADSJ Dilawar also directed a copy of the order to be sent to the Islamabad Police Chief along with the arrest warrant for enforcement of the court order.
During today’s hearing, which began at 8:30 am, the judge reiterated his displeasure with Imran’s attorney’s absence. However, he gave his defense counsel several opportunities to appear in court.
Finally, at 12:30 pm, ASDJ Dilawar announced the verdict. About 29 minutes later, reports surfaced of Imran’s arrest.
Imran’s Lawyer statement after verdict: Before the court’s written verdict was released, Lahore police were alleged to have arrived at Mr Imran’s home with the intention of “kidnapping” him.
