According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data, imports of mobile phones fell by 68% year-on-year in the first eight months of last year.
Imports fell by 68.29% in July to February. $1.412 billion worth of mobile phones were imported during the same period in 2022, the data further described.
On a monthly basis,mobile phone imports registered a negative growth of 36.39%, reaching US$33.054 million in February 2023, compared with US$51.96 million in January 2023.
Mobile phone imports registered a negative growth of 76.73% year-on-year (YoY) in February 2023, compared to $142.033 million in the same month last year. According to data released by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) in January 2023, local manufacturing factories manufactured/assembled 870,000 mobile phones, compared to 0.7 million commercially imported mobile phones.
