Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that for the first time in history, a ship laden with Russian oil finally arrived in Karachi.
“I have fulfilled yet another promise to my people,” Shehbaz said on Twitter. The prime minister called the day “a day of change” for the country. In April, Pakistan placed its first order for discounted Russian crude under a new deal.
The Russian ship “Pure Point” is a 183-meter long oil tanker with 45,000 tons of oil, and is anchored at Birthplace 2 of the port. He claimed it was the first oil shipment from Russia to Pakistan and the beginning of a new relationship between Pakistan and Russia.
“I commend everyone who has joined this national effort and contributed to making Russia’s oil import promise a reality,” he added.
